The flag of British Columbia is divided into two equal horizontal sections, with a stretched Union Jack in the top half with a stylized golden crown in the center of the crosses, and in the bottom half, nine horizontal wavy stripes (five waves) alternating white and blue, with a stylized golden sun with golden rays along the bottom.


The wavy stripes represent the Rocky Mountains, [3] the Union Jack and the crown represent the United Kingdom, which British Columbia was once a part of. The entire design is based on the British Columbia provincial shield of arms.
