The flag of Delaware is "colonial blue"[3] with a buff-coloured symmetrical diamond longer than it is tall, in the center of the flag, with a stylized version of the Delaware state coat of arms in the center of the diamond. Underneath the diamond, near the bottom of the flag, ae the words, in white, "DECEMBER 7, 1787".

"DECEMBER 7, 1787" is the day that Delaware became the first state of America. The coat of arms represents the state of Delaware. The diamond represents the state's nickname "The Diamond State". Buff and colonial blue are taken from the general uniform of George Washington.
