The flag of Germany is a horizontal equal tricolour of black, red, and gold.

Symbolism[]

The colors of the flag are the colors used by Prussia in the Napoleonic Wars in 1806. This was adopted in 1813. [4]

The flag's colors are borrowed from the German coat of arms.

History[]

Because of Germany's long history as many different countries and nations, the land of Germany has had many different flags flown over it.
