The flag of Portugal is a vertical bicolour of green and red, with the green stripe on the hoist two-fifths of the length of the fly. [3] On top of the midpoint of the border between the stripes is a stylised version of the national coat of arms of Portugal. [4]
[edit] Symbolism
Green possibly represents the Atlantic Ocean. Red possibly represents the Portuguese Revolution of 1910, and those who were killed then. Both colours could together represent Iberic Federalism, since the traditional colours of this ideology might have been green and red.
The coat of arms represents the history of the nation of Portugal.
