Flag of South Dakota
South Dakota
Adopted July 1, 1992 [1]
Designed by Ida M. Anding[2]
Proportions 3:5 [3]

The flag of South Dakota is light blue with a stylized black and white version of the South Dakotan state seal in the center of the flag, with stylized sun rays coming out of it. Circling the sun rays are the words "SOUTH DAKOTA" on top, and "THE MOUNT RUSHMORE STATE" on the bottom.

"SOUTH DAKOTA" represents South Dakota. "THE MOUNT RUSHMORE STATE" is a nickname for South Dakota. The state seal also represents South Dakota. The sun rays are from the original flag design, a pun on "The Sunshine State", South Dakota's previous nickname.
