|Flag of Switzerland|
|Adopted||December 12, 1889 |
The flag of Switzerland consists of a red square with a bold, equilateral white cross in the center.
The Swiss cross on a red field derives from a similar banner of the Holy Roman Empire.
- The Swiss flag is one of only two national flags on a square-shaped design. The other is the flag of the Vatican City.
- The flag of the Red Cross is based off of the Swiss flag.
