Hi, I am Bethel23.

I am a regular wiki user, and also edit Wikipedia. I am an administrator on this wiki.

I am the the founder of Children's Books Wiki and have, nearly singe-handedly, created all the pages, categories, images and info on it. I have racked up an edit count of over 2000 edits on the wiki! If you want to join in, please do! I am desperate for more users, as I have had only one other commited user so far! Go to Children's Books Wiki now!

I am not a vexillology person, and had never even heard of the word "vexillology" before I came to this wiki! However, I am interested in flags (that's why I'm here) and wikis. So the two nicely combine to this. But I really like history, so I tend to be more interested in that than writing a long description of a flag, and will normally oppose a featured article candidate on the basis that it has no history, as it is the single most interesting thing about flags to me!

[edit] Great Purge of the Years

The Great Purge of the Years was a task that Bethel23 set himself. The task involved sorting out all the years on VexiWiki, creating a vast number of new year pages (see below), and putting links to the years that the flag was adopted on every article. The task was completed (with all the articles present on VexiWiki at that time) on 23 December 2008. The project is, of course, a "never-ending" task, because Bethel23 has to do it with each new page added.

On the 7 March 2009, FlagFreak began putting "mini" flags next to the countries names on the year pages. Bethel23 aided him in this project, adding them for all years before 1967 (around 50) and the project was completed on the same day as it was started.

[edit] Designing VexiWiki's logo

VexiWiki's previous logo

The first design that Bethel23 suggested. It was rejected, but sparked a long series of different possible logos, all with a swirl.

The design that was adopted as the new VexiWiki flag. It was designed by Hellerick based upon designs by FlagFreak and Bethel23.

On 24 December 2008 Bethel23 designed a new flag for the logo of VexiWiki, involving a swirl. Although the first design was rejected, Bethel23, FlagFreak and Hellerick designed many different designs for VexiWiki's logo, all involving a swirl. FlagFreak termed the swirl "genius". The design for the new logo was decided on 1 January, 2009. The flag that was adopted was the last one above and was designed by Hellerick based upon earlier designs by FlagFreak and Bethel23.

[edit] Nations by continent

There was some discussion about how we were to categorise which countries in which continents, which ones were transcontinental etc. Bethel23 came up with User:Bethel23/Countries in continents which, after a couple of tweaks, was accepted by everybody. FlagFreak turned it into a huge chart (see it here), which required a whole load of images to be uploaded. So Bethel23 did that. Then the chart didn't look very good (gaps all over the place) so Bethel23 fixed that as well. Anyway, after many hours of work, it eventually looked respectable.
