The flag of Volgograd Oblast is red with two two thin vertical stripes of blue at the hoist side (the width of each thin red or blue stripe is 1/16 of the length of the flag), and depiction of the statue of Mother Land in the centre of the red field (its height is 3/4 of the width of the flag). [2]
Symbolism[]
Red stands for courage and firmness of Volgograd citizens, their activity, resoluteness, solidarity, and readiness for self-sacrifice.
The two blue stripes stand for the Don, and the Volga — the major rivers of European Russia and of the oblast.
The statue of Mother Land (Родина-Мать in Russian) refers to the Battle of Stalingrad that took place in the region in 1942-1943. [3]
